Is it normal to be locked in alpha while awake with eyes opened?

Post by AnAnonymousHelp »

Differently from my spouse, my brain waves don't fluctuate too much when I'm staring at the screen looking at it (without moving myself). I have tried many things, but I can never get the beta or gamma waves above the alpha (not even with the eyes closed).

Here's a screenshot:

(and here's the CSV File with the raw EEG values if you want precise info: https://file.io/KyLXKVqtgPkr).

And I just read somewhere saying that it's not normal to be always in alpha with the eyes opened. Does anyone know if this is unusual? What does it mean?

I think it's fine. It just means you're relaxed. I think being being relaxed is a good thing ;-)

It's usually hard to get high Alpha with your eyes open because eye movement creates EMG (muscle movement) interference, which will be shown as increased Delta. But if you're not moving your eyes much, then you won't get much EMG, so you'll actually be able to see your true brainwaves; which I believe is what is happening in this case; showing your true relaxed state.
